The Digital Chalkboard is where California educators get connected, collaborate, and share the best practices, best resources, best strategies — you might say the best of the best. Not a lot on NGSS... yet... but a lot of good resources on best practices.

White Hill Middle School has so much going on! Frog dissection, solar power cars, data collection and probability! Frog dissection by 7th graders Solar Power Racers built with cardboard as prototypes and then cut out of wood with a laser cutter. Teacher, Nate McDonald received a $10,000 grant from PG and E to fund this project Students learn the game SKUNK to talk about probability and work on posters for their data collection posters (gotta' love the questions the students come up with!)
Thanks Angel for sending this along. This is a Canadian website, but the concepts can be searched for your grade level. Engaging problem solving lessons. They also have some "real word" problems that might be of interest.
Great day at Davidson Middle School with engineering. Thanks Emily, Ranae, and Jessica! 7th graders building prosthetic arms: Embedded videos were deleted and changed to urls due to upload size of Power Point. 8th graders building amusement park rides: 7th graders testing their toothpick bridges:
Middle school math students learn about center of mass, compression, and tension at White Hill! Thanks Julia Marrero for the pictures!
Here are some lesson plans to tie art into science: musical instruments, quilt designs, makers's ideas, inventors, and force and motion. I love when I start to look for one thing and I stumble upon such great resources! For the earth science teachers: The NASA's BEST student guides has 9 design challenges (one guide for 3-5 and one for 6-8). An extensive list of STEM resources: websites, games, apps, contests, camps, and careers resources. K-12 (including a section on Math) 3D technology meets life science... All of these resources are off the NSTA Freebie site. So much more to explore!
Engage New York is a website with many resources for common core. I found a section of videos to help with CCSS math concepts with model lessons, games, and activities.
Thanks Mary-Clare Neal! Fabulous math tie in with proportions and gears.
