A day on a boat doing real science! Romberg Tiburon Center in conjunction with Wylie Charters led the teachers on a 1/2 day boat tour of the San Francisco Bay while collecting data about the water that we live so near. The afternoon was spent analyzing that data to see what conclusion can be made about our water and the bay.

This is a great, simple activity for introducing habitats before exploring them outside or a stand-alone exploration for habitats you can't get to.
Build a Drifter. Also often called "Great Plankton Races". Can be lead as more of a design challenge, with each student focusing on re-engineering their own plankton model to make it sink more slowly. This way they build a model, test it, and redesign it over and over again.
