Here is a great website shared by Natalie Corsini with great picture archives for animal adaptations. Thank you Carolyn Robello for this great video about the life cycle of the frog that she used in her plant and animal adaptation/ecosystem unit: " We studied the Life Cycle of a coyote, a redwood tree, and I showed this video as an example of a frog's life cycle. We also have trout in the classroom so we can see first hand a life cycle to a certain point."

For older students (7th and above), I've been showing PBS's "Inside Nature's Giants" video series from time to time. This show shows dissections of large animals and does an excellent job of explaining adaptations. I then have them do different comparative analyses as discussion. For example: Camels originated in the Canadian Arctic! Compare and contrast some adaptations from the episode with adaptations that would be beneficial or not in both an arctic and desert climate. http://www.pbs.org/video/2250831012/

Great concept of exploring animal adaptations by first understand the environment of the animals. The example in this video centers around the camel. The video contains a rich exploration of camel adaptations. However, the scenes of dissecting camels would need to be edited. Too gruesome to view in class. Interesting how animals with similar adaptations in two different environments Australia and deserts of Africa.
