Thank you for submitting this page for our review. At our last meeting of fourth grade teachers, I remember teachers showing the science notebooks that their students had done. They were very impressive. I was very interested in how they learned to get the notebooks to look that way and to get students to really do a nice job on them. They explained they had been to the CA Academy of Science two year training and it was one are that was really a focus.

I also wanted to post that it inspired me to apply for the academy's training today (March 3) and it is the deadline to do so.

We actually starting using a Science Journal to store our notes, ideas, planning, new vocabulary, diagrams, sketches, etc. We also have a section for our engineering challenges for students to write down their practices, as well as, a section for students to keep track of their inventions.

We have been using Science Journals this year as well. We have broken it into sections such as -specific current unit/trout observations/ plant observations, engineering practices & thoughts. The children have not only written thoughtfully, but have used it as a reference tool to refer to when completing tasks in class. I will this start this piece earlier next school next year.
