Thank you Cindy Leroux from Sun Valley for sharing these resources: "During our Plant and Animal Adaptation the gestation period of the coyote was discussed. This lead to student questions about other animals. This presents relevant information on 14 animals that can be shown/discussed in sections." Organisms: These were used, some in part as they are long, in an introduction to the Plant and Animal unit. It can begin the discussion as to what an organism is. If students do not have access to microscopes, they might be enlightened. Those with microscopes available might become excited to see what they might see in local pond water. VIDEOS: From Lindsay Hess, 3rd grade Wade Thomas: "Last year we used the SF Zoo Mobile for as part of our animal adaptations unit. The kids really enjoyed it."

The 3rd grade team at Sun Valley recently had the SF Zoo Mobile visit our classrooms. Done in a rotation, each class visited with a zoo intern and learned about 5 different animals and their habitats. The timing of the visit was perfect. We have done so much work with animals(coyote, elf owl, birds etc) that the students' prior knowledge was a great foundation for the information shared at the visit. They knew higher level vocabulary the intern referred to because of our unit of study.

Great cell videos - I usually use pond specimens to begin my cell unit. The links were had good content, great for having kids watch and comment on them on their own!
