Wonderful. Brings together everything we teach cross curricular. I love the part about knowing the opinion on other side and answering to that. (Claim, counter claim, etc.) I will be referring to this presentation when I plan for fall. Thank you

I enjoyed learning how you broke down the discourse into sections that while a little sophisticated for 4th grade, can be modified to this grade level. I am interested in thinking about scenarios like this to provide students with opportunities to try this type of discourse on topics we are learning about. The video was very helpful to see the students engaged in discourse and how each teacher led, but did not steer the conversations. I am interested in trying this and hope to do so soon to see how well it will work in my classroom.

Incredible year-long effort on a big process task. I can hear in the video how embedded the idea of a claim and evidence is in your classroom, used relentlessly by you and also by the students so it is part of your classroom culture. Thanks for both breaking down how you implemented this in your class as well as giving such clear examples of what that looks like. Ready to take this on next year.

This is such an exceptional addition to the new standards. It has been a learning curve to teach this skill to the students. It was great to hear that Kaki has the same learning curve we have had, but the benefits have been amazing to watch this year as the students do lab reports.

Thank you for breaking down the process of how you engaged students in discourse. I really like the active roles you gave them, which forced them to understand that scientists argue from evidence. This is a skill that will make them better scientists and also make them more competent in any field they choose. I will take lots of these ideas to my class!

I really love this idea - especially having dtude ts argue the opposite side. It really helps them inderstand there are two sides to an argument. It's a fun way to get the kids engaged in discussion yet making it feel like a game. Thanks for the ideas!

We are doing a lesson study in the fall to improve student discourse in science. Thanks for sharing, and giving us so many ideas of how to improve student communication/discourse at Miller Creek.
