Adam Singer – Middle School Engineering I am in the process of retooling our traditional shop class into a maker-oriented STEM class utilizing the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices to guide the student design process to address meaningful problems. I am hoping that having students conduct initial guided formal investigations, do reflective writing on their challenges and problem solving will improve their engineering design process.

I loved seeing the complexity of the design challenges the students are creating at the middle school level. Hearing Adam explain how projects are launched and then iterated over and over again to achieve a successful result motivated me to return to school and talk up the DMS maker space with my students.

I liked seeing the creativity of the different challenges, some that I had not seen during iTeams. I really like the idea of doing a week of challenges. I'm sure the students loved that week!

Seeing the next level (beyond K-5) was inspiring and motivating! It was clear from the evidence that Adam provided, that students have complete buy in and are working through the Science and Engineering Practices in a really meaningful way! Thanks for sharing.

I love the solar cars and the adjustments that the student made to complete the task. What a fun way to learn how to troubleshoot and solve a problem. Always cool in Mr. Singer's class!

To see one of my former students highlighted in the engineering demo was thrilling. It was clear that the curiosity and inquisitiveness of this student was met by Adam's inspiring curriculum.
